Headed uptown
I’m getting better with the subways, but I’m not ready to do transfers. Today I met a friend for lunch, and instead of taking a train crosstown I walked. From 8th to Lex, which isn’t a bad walk except that it was so freaking windy. One day I’ll learn the east/west subways. For now, I’m content with up and down.

Almost hot enough to burn books
Ben was nice enough to let me spend the afternoon in his office, I had a few stories I had to write. I did my best not to bug him, but it was hot as a motherf*cker in there. Take a look for yourself. The number on top represents Fahrenheit !!!

Career killer?
A publicist notified me a few weeks ago about a new reality show casting soon for the CW Network. It is being done by the same people who did Project Runway and Top Model (my feeble attempt at legitimizing this untitled show), and the focus of this series, is to find the next great fashion editor. Apparently the winner of the show gets to become the Fashion Editor of Elle. Too good to be true? I...

Discussing Emma
Mom: Emma is getting skinny
Me: Not possible
Mom: It looks like shes dropped about 1-2 pounds, you can now begin to feel her ribs.
Me: In all of two days. wow, if only I could do that
Mom: raw beef
Me : So you put Emma on the Atkins diet pretty much.

Morning # 2
8:45 am still feels like 4 am to me. This morning I took the subway all by myself! For those of you that decide to come visit your favorite New Yorker (ehem), hopstop.com is pretty amazing. It tells you where to get on and what stop to get off no matter where you are going…the only thing it doesn’t do, is tell you whether or not to go left or right upon exiting a subway. I quickly...

The hood
Although this is the view outside Ben’s window (courtesy of the 49th floor), the far left corner of the screen, just on the other side of the steam, is where my apartment is. In theory. I could also be crashing with the homeless man just right of that.

Just in case...
Apparently I have not outlived the whole University of Michigan disaster. I arrived at my temporary dwelling (Ben’s digs) to find a special present waiting for me. See below. (No, not the Elle)

Monday afternoon
I’m back from my first meeting, it went very well. My biggest concern right now is the hands. How do you keep them from being frozen and useless indoors? I use gloves outside, but upon removing the wooly beasts, my nubs are like rigid ice-sticks. I have three wounds on my fingers already, one of which took a direct jab from my umbrella wiring. Youch!

The first morning
I don’t care that I am physically in New York, I woke up at 5:45 a.m. LA time today. It’s rough. I have an exciting day of meetings ahead of me, I will return later for a report and a recap of my arrival.  According to weather.com it is supposed to be cloudy and around 40 today…I suppose that means I only need one pair of long johns.

12 hours and some change
Eight boxes and two going away parties later, I can officially say I have prepared to the best of my ability. I am in transit. I have everything checked off on my to-do list, and spent the last few days with the most important people — friends and family (and Emma). The only thing I have left to do is bet properly…. The over/under on the number of hours I am going to sleep tonight....

The day off – promises of sleeping in coupled with errands and checked boxes on the tada list. But not my day off. Yesterday (after waking to the sound of Emma the never-ending dog barker) I spent the first three hours of my morning trying to export my 777 Microsoft Outlook Contacts into a useable file and well, needless to say, it shouldn’t have taken three hours. I also spent an enormous amount...

Six days and counting....
This isn’t quite the way I imagined it happening. In my dream (see: delusion), Conde Nast sends me an offer letter, to which I counter, then accept and call my personal assistant (see:delusional again), to pack my things. Instead, I chose a very ambitious path, an equation even I never wanted to deal with: no job, no apt, no idea.
